ReplayTV 5040? - replaytv 5040 hard drive
The hard drive has died. Do I need special software before replacing the hard disk or 80 GB of available hard disk from any source (best buy) work, simply replace the old hard drive?

You will need a program called Rtvpatch to use many different brands, people improve their ReplayTV hard drive, but most people have success with Maxtor hard drives. Please update your ReplayTV hard about this issue can find the link. Good luck.
